The Idol is a new HBO television series created by Sam Levinson, Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd), and Reza Fahim. It is about a self-help guru and the head of a contemporary cult who develops a complicated bond with a budding pop star.
The Weeknd revealed that he would be developing, executive producing, and co-writing a drama series for HBO on June 29, 2021. Principal photography for the program took place in Los Angeles, California, around in November 2021.
The Plot of The Idol
The Idol’s official synopsis has not yet been made public. But from what we’ve gathered, the focus of the show is Jocelyn, a female pop singer whose last tour is ruined by a nervous breakdown. She persists in her quest to establish herself as the sexiest pop star in America. When she starts dating Tedros, a club owner who doubles as a cult leader, her passion is reignited.
Trailer Release of The Idol
On July 17, 2022, the first teaser for The Idol was made public. The teaser doesn’t give away much in terms of the plot or the characters. However, it does set the stage for what to anticipate. The glitz and glamour of Hollywood, partying, dancing, drug use, romance, flashy cars, sex, and other things are all present.
On August 21, 2022, a second teaser was released. It reveals that the show is “from the gutters of Hollywood” and clarifies which cast members continued to appear in the show after the reshoots.
On October 6, 2022, the third teaser was released, and like the first two, it doesn’t appear to give away too much about the story.
The Idol Release Date
The Idol hasn’t had an official release date yet because of production delays, but the second teaser indicated that it will be “coming soon.” It was recently revealed in an HBO Max promotional video that The Idol will now be released in 2023, though the precise date is still unknown.
