After delivering hits like Men In Black and Legally Blonde, directors Barry Sonnenfeld, and Robert Luketic made their apple TV debut with Schmigadoon which was kind a mix of both the world’s humour and elements. The show was created by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio and follows the journey of a couple, Melissa and Josh, who find themselves trapped in a magical town called Schmigadoon, where everyone breaks into song and dance at a moment’s notice.
Season one received a great response from the audience all over the world and hence the show was commissioned for the return with Schmigadoon Season 2! The show is set to make its return after two years after its pilot season’s release in 2021. Today, we will talk about the latest plot details, cast updates and everything about Schmigadoon Season 2!
Schmigadoon Season 1 Recap
The lead characters of the show, Josh Skinner (Keegan-Michael Key) and Melissa Gimble (Cecily Strong) are on a backpacking trip trying to make up their falling-apart relationship when they reach an inescapable magical town, Schmigadoon. Melissa and Josh learn that they can only leave this colourful and bright town when they are with their true love.
The best thing about people who like musicals is how the citizens of Schmigadoon break into song and dance at a moment’s notice, and the townspeople are convinced that Melissa and Josh are meant to be together forever.
Throughout Schmigadoon Season 1, the couple tries to make their way through the town’s ever-happy and dancing residents to find a way back to their “real world”. As the story progresses, they meet a variety of characters, including the town’s strict schoolmarm (Kristin Chenoweth), the town doctor (Martin Short), and among others, a couple, Doc Lopez and Emcee (Jaime Camil and Ariana DeBose).
Melissa and Josh question their relationship, “Are they meant to be together?”. As the show comes to an end, the lost couple discover that true love requires compromise and sacrifice, and finally realise that they are each other’s true love after all and are finally able to leave Schmigadoon, albeit not without a final musical dance number!
What You Should Expect From Schmigadoon Season 2
In Schmigadoon Season 2, Melissa and Josh, in their almost-happy married life decide to revisit the magical town of Schmigadoon to find their relationship’s charming energy back with the hope that the town’s joyful and musical environment will provide them with the happiness they want to recuperate. Well, who wouldn’t do this after visiting the magical town full of talented performers who sing and dance with joy?
But, what good in a fairy tale story with no twist? To their surprise, the couple finds themselves in a new town called Schmicago. Not only the name of the town is different, also, instead of joyous people with quaint houses, the new town is also filled with dubious clubs and characters reminiscent of a jazz scene.
The Leprechaun (again played by Martin Short) orders the couple to stay in Schmicago until they create a happy ending. As expected, the couple becomes embroiled in the town’s issues, but this time the name of the game is a murder mystery! Will they be able to get out of this magical world using their real-life tricks and bring about the happy ending they came looking for?
