Joe Russo and Anthony Russo- If these two names are on your screen, you know that you can bet your life that the entertainment is guaranteed! Even after a record-breaking viewership with Extraction, many might say otherwise after the mixed review of the first part of Netflix’s Extraction. Speaking from what we have seen in the trailer that was released a week ago on Netflix’s official YouTube channel, we feel that the Chris Hemsworth starer Extraction is BIGGER and BETTER than ever before!
With the trailer, one thing that all of us now clearly know is that Tyler is back after taking a bullet and he is evidently not weak anymore! He has proved that he is a beast when it comes to his duty and the man is back in action. But where is Extraction 2 taking us this season? Is there a new cast? When is Extraction 2 releasing on Netflix? Calm down, buddy. This blog will answer all your questions in one go. So, let us get going!
Recap: What Happened in Extraction One
Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth), a mercenary with a troubled past was hired to rescue the kidnapped son of an Indian drug lord named Ovi Mahajan Sr. (Pankaj Tripathi). Ovi Mahajan Jr (Rudhraksh Jaiswal) has been kidnapped in Dhaka, Bangladesh by a rival drug lord, Amir Asif.
It doesn’t take Tyler long to realise that the ‘Extraction’ is more dangerous than he thought, as he is pursued by Asif’s heavily armed army. Things start to take an interesting turn when the mercenary starts developing an unlikely bond with Ovi Jr.
As the movie progresses, Tyler Rake, in an action sequence falls off a bridge and into a river while the boy, Ovi Mahajan Jr is finally reunited with his family in India.
At the end of the movie, all we see is a close-up of Tyler’s face, lying on the riverbank, who is most probably presumed dead.
Extraction 2 Plot: What Will Happen in Extraction 2?
All that the official IMDb page of the Netflix movie, Extraction 2 says is, “Sequel to the 2020 action thriller ‘Extraction”. But because it’s a Russo Brother film, we know that there will be so much more to it!
The trailer shows that Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) is more than alive and is already back in action. This time, the Black Ops turned mercenary is on a mission to safeguard the family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from a fortified prison.
Keeping in mind that this movie has taken a time jump after the events of the first Extraction film, we don’t think there will be many connections between the two movies. Nevertheless, this film is written by Joe Russo, the master of callbacks as all of us witnessed with the “On Your Left” scene in Avengers: Endgame, so, expect the unexpected.
Extraction 2: Whom Should You Expect To See in The Sequel
Stating the obvious, Tyler Rake, the ruthless (on the enemy) mercenary is back in the action after falling off the bridge in the first Extraction movie is again played by the ‘God of Thunder’, Chris Hemsworth!
Along with Chris, the film is led by Golshifteh Farahani (Body of Lies, Paterson) who will be the one person Tyler is commissioned to extract, Nik Khan! Daniel Bernhardt, the massy action master from John Wick, The Matrix and Parker will be seen playing the role of Konstantine!
Sinead Phelps (A Small Light) will be seen as Kutaisi Staff, Tinatin Dalakishvili (John Malkovich) is playing the role of Ketevan, Justin Howell (The Man from Toronto) as Gio and Adam Bessa (Mosul) is returning as Yaz.
Extraction 2 Release Date on Netflix
After its release, Extraction 1 immediately became one of the highest-watched films on Netflix, surpassing all records and to date remains one of the top ten films of all time on Netflix. With the pandemic, the production of the sequel got delayed and Netflix had to wait almost two years to announce the release of Extraction 2.
After more than two years of the original Netflix’s Extraction Film, Extraction 2 will hit the online platform on June 16 this year. The running time of the film is yet to be known, but you can expect it to be the perfect 2-hour Action Thriller like John Wick!
Even for someone with a hockey puck for a brain, it is easy to conclude that the film by the stunt choreographer turned director, Sam Hargrave, Netflix’s Extraction sequel will have some hardcore action scenes and hopefully include a lengthy, one-take fight sequence just like the predecessor that made everyone go Ga-Ga!
