Don’t Worry Darling: A Blissful Life
Alive is married to Jack, played by Florence Pugh and Harry Styles, respectively. The couple lived in the 1950s in the Palm Springs desert in a small town called Victory. The two love each other immensely and have an amazing life full of excitement and parties. A person named Frank seems to be in charge of the town and he demands that the men not share their work lives with their wives – they seem to be working on a secret project. All women are forbidden from going into the desert as their husbands are supposedly working on a Manhattan Project, which has something to do with nuclear weapons.
Secrets of Victory
While the wives clean, cook, shop, gossip, and party and seem to be having a beautiful life, Alice has her suspicions, which are only deepened when she doesn’t find a single yolk in a whole carat of eggs that she cracks. Soon, one of Alice’s friends, Margaret, goes towards the desert to see what her child saw, which he described as something terrible to her. The company tells Margaret that her son died, reminding the residents of the town that it is dangerous to wander in the desert. Margaret commits suicide in front of Alice because she believes that the company has taken her son away after she uncovered what was in the desert.
The Confrontation
Soon, Alice too, sees a plane crash in the desert and runs to check what happened; instead, she finds a bunker where the men are working. She sees some hazy images when she goes near the building to touch it. She awakes in her bed and tries to understand what she saw back in the desert. Alice confronts her husband and Frank– instead, Jack frames her to be taken away by some men who give her electroshock therapy. Instead of reprograming her, the therapy allows Alice to see her past memories.
Don’t Worry Darling: Alice Uncovers the Truth
Alice had been living a virtual life and in reality, she is a doctor who works long hours. Jack is her partner, who is not much bothered about how the house needs to be run. He spends his time watching television and listening to podcasts about VR technology invented by Frank, which allows a man to be with a choice of his woman, to be plugged into a virtual universe in the 50s. Jack signs up without taking Alice’s consent and brings her to this VR world.
Alice’ Escapes the Virtual World
She then confronts Jack about this, who admits that he likes the simulation world and doesn’t want to leave it but does so to work in the real world to pay for this virtual world. Alice then kills Jack accidentally and runs to the desert to the bunker, where she touches a glass – which teleports her back to reality. The screen turns black as soon as she touches the glass, and viewers can only hear a woman gasping for air, which means that Alice made it back to the real world.
