The Handmaid’s Tale season 5 is coming to Hulu this week on September 14. The new season will have a two-part premiere episode in the US with no announcement regarding UK release. But already rumors are going around about the show’s end. To make the swirling rumors true, the makers of this award-winning thriller have officially announced that The Handmaid’s Tale will be ending soon with its 6th and final season.
The Handmaid’s Tale is an adoption of Margaret Atwood’s best-selling novel of the same name written in 1985. The show first aired on Hulu back in 2017. The show’s theme is misogyny, patriarchy, women’s bodily autonomy, and reproductive rights.

The Handmaid’s Tale has won 15 Emmy Awards and become the first streaming title in history to win in the Outstanding Drama Series category. Although the show is coming to its end, we can still see Gilead onscreen. Miller is right now adapting Atwood’s 2019 book The Testaments. The story takes place years after the events of Handmaid’s Tale.
June’s (Elisabeth Moss) story will come to an end. The news has already made the fans emotional. In a statement on the show’s end, creator, showrunner, and executive producer Bruce Miller said,
“It has been a true honor to tell the story of Margaret Atwood’s groundbreaking novel and the chillingly relevant world, and we are thrilled to bring viewers a sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale,”

So far, we know nothing about the final season’s release date, plot, or who will be in the cast. After the brutal climax of season 4, June hunted down and slaughtered Waterford (Joseph Fiennes). Moss has given us some hints about season 5 earlier this year. And already we know that the show will return for its final showdown. Moss said about this season,
“I will say that the season itself is possibly one of the wilder rides that we’ve had. Some seasons a lot happens, some seasons not as much happens.”
Although we don’t know about cast members of season 6, the current cast of The Handmaid’s Tale posted on their social media about the show’s final season. This can only mean that we can assume that Elisabeth Moss, Max Minghella, Yvonne Strahovski, O.T. Fagbenle, Samira Wiley, Bradley Whitford, Ann Dowd, Amanda Brugel, and Sam Jaeger will stay until the very end.
