In a heartwarming chit chat interview, Senjuti Das, the talented singer hailing from a modest middle-class family, has managed to turn her dreams into reality by making it to the prestigious Indian Idol 13 competition. Senjuti’s journey has been one of determination, perseverance, and passion for music.
A. Certainly. I began my singing career as a playback singer for popular TV serials such as Radha Krishna, Choti Sardari, and Sasural Simar ka. These opportunities not only allowed me to showcase my talent but also paved the way for my growth as a singer.
A. Auditioning for SaReGaMaPa was a turning point. It was challenging because, being a Bengali, I faced the hurdle of not being familiar with Urdu words often used in Hindi songs. But through this process, I learned and improved a lot.
A. It was indeed a risk, but I was determined to give my dreams a shot. I had no contacts or prior knowledge, but I believed in myself and my passion for music. In Mumbai, I balanced work with my pursuit of music for three months before getting a job as a music assistant in a studio, which helped me refine my skills further.
A. Absolutely. Singing my first serial song on a ship named Bhagwan was a special moment for me. Positive feedback from composers on Radha Krishna boosted my confidence. Being on Indian Idol was unforgettable, filled with fun and memorable times.
A. Handling pressure is crucial, and I believe it’s okay to feel nervous. However, not letting nervousness control you is key. I always remind myself that the audience is there to listen, not judge, which helps me overcome my anxiety.
A. Learning classical music forms the foundation for all types of singing. It’s a valuable skill that shapes your vocal abilities and musical understanding. Different teachers bring unique approaches to teaching classical music, enriching one’s learning experience.
A. My bond with Kavya is like that of sisters, as we share similar musical thoughts. Chirag is shy but opens up and is quite humorous. Spending time musically with Shivam has been enriching, and Rishi is someone with whom I share a similar musical vision.
A. I’d be thrilled to work with many Bollywood actresses, but there are three in particular – Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, and Shraddha Kapoor – for whom I have a special desire to sing. Collaborating with them would be an incredible opportunity.
A. Rishi is the person I’m closest to. Musically, I’ve spent the most time with Shivam. Chirag is respectful and shy, and I look forward to working with him and Shivam in the future.
A. (laughs) Sure! Rishi and Kavya, brace yourselves for a rapid-fire challenge!
