The year 2022 brought with it an amazing collection of movies for the world. As the world was on the path of recovery from the Pandemic, the entertainment industry soared to new heights in 2022. The year had many blockbusters and each genre had a new range of options. One such flick was “Nope”. 

This is a film written, directed and produced by the well-known filmmaker Jordan Peele. This movie also happens to be the first horror film to be filmed with IMAX cameras. Nope came out in July and immediately grabbed the attention due to its talented cast and also because Nope’s storyline was fresh with amazing visual effects. 

What Is NOPE’s Plot About?

The movie is based out of Agua Dulce, California. It revolves around a pair of siblings OJ (Otis Junior) Haywood (played by Daniel Kaluuya) and Emerald Haywood (played by Keke Palmer), who inherit Haymond Hollywood Ranch after their father (Otis Haywood Senior) died. 

The mystery of the movie begins with Otis Senior’s death, people claim that his death was due to a faulty plane flying and randomly dropping stuff from the sky, whereas through the movie OJ reveals that the death was due to a mysterious creature. They get stuck in a bizarre situation, where animals’ behaviour is affected by some mysterious force. And it further leads to the disappearance of people of Jupiter’s Claim, a theme park in the vicinity of Haywood’s residence, and an entire township vanishing in thin air. The theme park is run by Jupe, who also happened to be one of the survivors of the Gordy’s Home massacre.

During this whole chaos, they realize there’s a giant cloud which stays in the same place and has been there for more than six months then. With the help of Angel Torres (played by Brandon Perea) the siblings set up surveillance in their area to capture the proof of the UFO’s existence, but with all the chaos around, fail to do so. When this news hits the TV channels, a documentary filmmaker David, played by Lakeith Stanfield lends them a hand to capture the beast’s picture for the world to believe. This whole charade gives the audience a thrilling experience throughout the movie.

If you don’t already know it, let us tell you that Jordon Haworth Peele is an Oscar and Emmy-winning director, writer, actor and producer who is famous for his sketch comedies

Peele’s filmography includes “Get Out” (2017), and Us (2019), he also wrote and produced Candyman (2021), and Wendell and Wild (2022). Coming to the cast of the film: 

• Keke Palmer plays Emerald “Em” Haywood, sister of OJ. She is an American actress and singer. She also hosted the talk show “Just Keke” in 2014.

• Brandon Perea, who played Angel Torres. He is a multi-talented person who acts, jam skates, dances and BMXs.

• Michael Wincott played Antler Holst, often gets to play villainous roles due to his deep and rusty voice.

• Steven Yeun played Jupe Park, who in the movie is the owner of a theme park named “Jupiter’s Claim”.

What is Gordy’s Home in Nope?

The movie starts with some flashes from a sitcom in the movie named “Gordy’s Home”. Some snippets from the same are shown during the movie as well. It was a sitcom where a chimp named Gordy used to live with a family. And during the shoot of one of its episodes, one of the chimps who played Gordy loses his mind over some balloon-popping sound. This entire episode leads to a whole massacre……Well, there is more to it, but we don’t to spoil it for you guys! 

What is Jean Jacket in Nope?

The UFO or mysterious creature responsible for the disappearance of the animals and humans in the film is named the Jean Jacket by OJ Haywood after a horse that Haywood owned in the past. Later in the movie, Jean Jacket reveals its true form as a white jellyfish sort of structure, which sucks down the creature who makes eye contact with it.  

In all, this movie is worth a weekend binge for a thrill-seeking audience and will keep you on the edge of your seats till the end. Although this movie is available on OTT platforms, we would pay to watch it in theatres once again!
