In the recent episode 41 of Shark Tank India Season 2, a diagnosis and monitoring start-up named Trunome presented their details and pitched their deal to the sharks. The co-founders of Trunome explained to the panel of sharks about their latest technology which detects chronic diseases, including cancer, through a blood test.
Proposal from the Sharks!
The co-founders propose that in the upcoming five years, their work is bound to do a 4,000 crore business. They pitched an amount of Rs. 1.5 crores for 1% equity.
While Namita Thapar found it unbelievable for Trunome to make that much money as they have just five hospitals that have signed up with them, the other judges find their concept interesting. Anupam Mittal says that he was willing to make them an offer that they would not be able to refuse. The final offer made by the judges was as below:
- Peyush offered them Rs. 1.5 crores at 2% equity.
- Anupam offered them Rs. 1.5 crores at 1.75% equity
- Veenita offered them 75 lakhs for 1% equity and 75 lakhs interest-free debt
Finally, four sharks Peyush, Anupam, Veenita, and Aman gave Trunome owners an offer of 1.5 crores for 2% equity, to which they counter-proposed 3 crores for 2.5% equity
What Was the Final Deal for Trunome?
The final deal was closed with Anupam, Peyush, Aman and Veenita at Rs.1.5 crores for 2% equity.
Trunome: Non-Invasive Way to Detect Chronic Diseases
Trunome is a Chennai-based company that was founded in 2014 by Agragesh R. and Avinash Ramani. They use a revolutionary technology that uses a non-invasive blood test method to identify and monitor chronic diseases. The process is termed as liquid biopsy. The nature of detection for some chronic diseases is invasive and difficult as it involves surgery which increases the time of recovery in patients. It is painful, risky, and costly too.
On the other hand, the liquid biopsy proposed by Trunome is non-invasive, comfortable, and safe for patients. The technology separates the plasma from the blood cells, and then cfDNA is extracted from it. The sample then undergoes screening to monitor the health of the patient. This method allows a detailed understanding of the patient’s disease and allows the doctors to take a more personalized approach when treating them.
