Kate Winslet made a grand entry on HBO. The Oscar winner, who starred in Mare of Easttown, will play Madame Chancellor in the upcoming limited series The Regime (formerly known as The Palace), switching from her role as a small-town investigator. This political satire from the Succession executive producers is slated to premiere next year and may possibly fill the void left by the Roys’ departure in 2023.
Stephen Frears and Jessica Hobbs are the directors of this series. The Regime is written by Will Tracy, co-writer of The Menu and episodes of Succession. Executive producers include Frank Rich, Tracey Seaward, and Kate Winslet.
If you were impressed by Winslet’s Delco accent in Mare, notice the subdued drawl she uses in The Regime. Here are some important things to watch out for.
On April 12, 2023, Warner Bros Discovery released a trailer for The Regime alongside the announcement of the new title. The trailer has a sarcastic tone and is built around an interview between the characters of Kate Winslet and Martha Plimpton.
Although there is no set date yet, HBO promises the new series will debut on the newly renamed Max streaming service in 2024. The series production was confirmed to have started in February 2023, with filming taking place on location in Austria.
The official logline for the limited series claims that it will tell the story of one year inside the walls of the palace of a modern European regime as it unravels. However, further information is still not revealed.
But the first trailer gives us a sense of the series’ dry humour.
This brand-new HBO drama stars Kate Winslet as The Chancellor, the tyrant of a made-up Middle European nation.
Winslet is paired with Matthias Schoenaerts in the film. International audiences first became aware of Schoenaerts through his performances in the Belgian thriller Bullhead and the French romance film Rust & Bone, where he co-starred with Marion Cotillard.
In this series, Winslet will also be joined by actors such as Martha Plimpton from The Goonies, Guillaume Gallienne from Me, Myself, and Mum, Andrea Riseborough from To Leslie, and Hugh Grant from Rust and Bone.
Other cast members include Danny Webb, Henry Goodman, David Bamber, Stanley Townsend, Louie Mynett, Rory Keenan, Karl Markovics, and Pippa Haywood.
