Scream 7 Release Date: Will the Ghostface’s Return? Know the Cast and Expected Plot

With Scream 6 in 2023 continuing the iconic slasher genre, people are already anticipating Scream 7. Scream was launched in 1996 and reinvigorated the slasher genre while introducing a meta element to horror films that forever transformed the genre. The saga of Sidney Prescott and her pals being hunted by multiple Ghostface murders is continued by director Wes Craven. Following Craven’s death, the franchise took a new turn with a fresh group of youthful people prepared to carry the series forward, and the Scream 7 news suggests that there are still plans for more to come.

Scream 7 Release Date

Despite the popularity of Scream 6, Scream 7 has not yet been officially announced. Scream 6 premiered in March 2023, 14 months after the previous film, and was confirmed in February 2022. If the seventh film receives an equally quick green light, we could see Ghostface again next year.

Potential Scream 7 Cast

The Scream 7 cast will most likely consist of a new core cast of characters that have been formed. Sam, Tara, Mindy, and Chad are played by Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding. These characters were clearly recognized as the new series stars in Scream 6.

Sam’s new love interest Danny, portrayed by Tom Segarra, was the only one of the new Scream 6 characters still alive in the final scene. In the Scream movies, boyfriends typically don’t fair too well, but since Segarra’s character not only turned out to be Ghostface after all but also lived, there’s a good chance he’ll return. Scream 6 featured the return of certain significant legacy characters, including Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers and Hayden Panettiere as Kirby Reed, who was still alive by the finale. 

Scream 7 Plot

There is not yet a Scream 7 storyline synopsis available. Scream 6’s conclusion does offer a clear future for the franchise, though. It is established that there are several Ghostface killers without giving too much away, and no new antagonists are alluded to. The gaps are filled. However, there is one instance that raises the possibility of a follow-up. 

Sam is seen being drawn to her father’s Ghostface mask in the movie’s last scene, and it is clear that she enjoyed using it to protect herself earlier on. Sam leaves the disguise behind, but it’s possible that she still harbors some murderous intentions. It would be an interesting twist to have the final girl become the next villain in the next sequel.

Therefore, unless a shocking twist presents a brand-new cast of characters, the franchise’s only viable future seems to be a Sam Ghostface film.

Scream 7 Trailer

There is no Scream 7 trailer to share, as the movie hasn’t been confirmed or even begun filming. If Scream 7 debuts in the spring of 2024, perhaps we’ll see a teaser for it around the holidays.
