Season 48 of the Emmy-winning NBC sketch show, Saturday Night Live premieres this week, and some things are bound to look a little different. When a performer is asked to grace Studio 8H as the host of an episode of Saturday Night Live, it’s one of the many indications that they’ve really made it in the business
Genre: Stand-up comedy; Satire; Variety show
Network: NBC
Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, and Kyle Mooney, who had been a part of the cast for a long time, left SNL at the end of the previous season.
Over the summer, the show also announced that Melissa Villaseor, Alex Moffat, Aristotle Athari, and Chris Redd would not be returning.
Season 48 will introduce four new featured players to fill in some of the gaps:
Having trouble adjusting to all that change? Don’t worry; a stalwart of Saturday Night Live Kenan Thompson will be there to lead us through his cast-record 20th season.
In the first episode of the 48th season of Saturday Night Live, Miles Teller makes his hosting debut. Some viewers may recall that he has comedic talent from earlier works like 21 & Over and That Awkward Moment. Of course, thrilling performances in dramas like 2014’s Whiplash or, more recently, 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick are what have made him more well-known today.
On Saturday, October 1, 2022, Teller was joined at Studio 8H by a musical guest who is most definitely not a rookie and never fails to put on a good show. For his third appearance on SNL, Grammy and Oscar-winning hip-hop artist Kendrick Lamar will take a break from his promotional tour for his most recent album, Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers.
On October 8, 2022, Brendan Gleeson, a well-known actor in drama and comedy who has appeared in both light and dark films (such as Paddington 2 and 2008’s In Bruges), will host Saturday Night Live.
The daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith will be singing on Saturday Night Live for the first time on her own this season, but she previously made an unexpected appearance with Camila Cabello in April 2022.
Billie Eilish in December 2021 and Lizzo in April of the following year were two memorable non-actor hosts and musical guests on Saturday Night Live’s 47th season. Megan Thee Stallion is the first artist to perform dual duties in this manner for Season 48.
In a mid-credits scene that quickly went viral, the rapper proved that she does have a knack for comedy when she made an appearance as herself to twerk with the show’s titular Marvel character, She-Hulk, on Disney+. Expect to hear a few new songs from Megan Thee Stallion’s recently released album Traumazine when she performs at Studio 8H for the second time on October 15, 2022.
