Erotic thriller is a genre that needs to be handled tastefully and hence is one of the least experimented niches attempted even by seasoned filmmakers. Netflix is one platform that is fighting tooth and nail in the last couple of months with its declining market share. Obsession, Netflix’s latest erotic thriller series’s trailer has set the internet on fire! If you have seen it, you know what we are talking about.
In 2022, at a London event, Netflix first announced the show as “Damage”, but later renamed the miniseries to “Obsession”. While there is not much on the internet about the show, today we have brought to you, the release date, cast information and plot of this multistarrer series, Obsession, a Netflix erotic thriller!
The main plot of Obsession is based on Josephine Hart’s 1991 original novel “Damage” in which a politician falls in love with his son’s girlfriend, Anna and his soon-to-be daughter-in-law. Their bonding soon leads to an inappropriate relationship as Anna tries to carry on both relationships while the politician and Anna manage to hide everything from everyone else.
While the show is loosely based on the book, the main character of the politician has been turned into a surgeon named William and his daughter’s fiance’s name remains the same as in the original book, Anna. William and Anna’s love becomes an ‘Obsession’ for both which spirals down to a journey that can (or will?) change them forever!
The show is adapted for the screen by Benji Walters (BBC’s Noughts + Crosses) and playwright, Morgan Lloyd Malcolm. The show is co-directed by Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn, both of whom have also co-directed the film ‘Good Vibrations’ in 2012.
The show is headlined by Richard Armitage from The Hobbit Franchise) and Charlie Murphy who has previously worked on Netflix’s ‘Peaky Blinders’ and ‘The Last Kingdom’.
Apart from these two, the audience can also expect to see multiple screen veterans in this erotic thriller, Obsession on Netflix.
Obsession is a Netflix Miniseries and has only four episodes, we are not expecting the online platform to sanction the upcoming season as the show is based on Josephine Hart’s 1991 original novel “Damage”.
The audience will be able to see Netflix’s Obsession on the 13th of April. Thanks to Netflix, all four episodes will premiere together giving us a chance to binge-watch the erotic thriller before TGIF kicks in this week.
Technically, Obsession is not R-rated, but if you have seen the Obsession’s trailer on Netflix’s official YouTube handle, you would know that this miniseries is defining the term ‘erotic thriller’.
The sizzling scenes in the miniseries are supposedly rated TV-MA (Mature Audience Only) which means, if you have kids around, it is either good to wait till they are away or switch on Netflix on your personal devices.
All in all, by the looks of it, we can say that most people on the internet watching this show will be ‘obsessed’ with this latest Netflix erotic thriller, Obsession this weekend! We think this will be a great watch to pair with your partner.
