Chhorii 2 – The Story: Darkness Returns

Set seven years after the traumatic events of the first film, Chhorii 2 follows Sakshi (Nushrratt Bharuccha), who is now a fiercely protective mother to her daughter, Ishani, a child born with a rare condition that makes exposure to sunlight life-threatening. Living in secluded isolation to shield her daughter, Sakshi’s worst fears come true when Ishani mysteriously vanishes—drawn into the same haunted village Sakshi escaped years ago.

As she retraces her path back into the cursed territory, Sakshi discovers that an ancient cult, led by the chilling Daasi Maa (Soha Ali Khan), has sinister plans for her daughter. With time running out, Sakshi must once again confront the horrors of the past and the ghosts within, battling both supernatural forces and the twisted beliefs of those around her.

Chhorii 2 Performances: Women Lead the Way

Nushrratt Bharuccha returns with a powerful performance, carrying the emotional weight of the film with conviction. Her portrayal of Sakshi is layered—vulnerable yet strong, haunted yet hopeful. Bharuccha delivers a performance that resonates, especially in moments where maternal instinct meets horror-induced panic.

Soha Ali Khan, in a rare antagonist role, surprises with her intense and eerie portrayal of Daasi Maa. Her calm composure layered with menace adds a new dimension to the film’s psychological tension. Young Hardika Sharma, playing Ishani, is a revelation, bringing innocence and intrigue to the story.

Direction & Screenplay: Horror With a Message

Director Vishal Furia deserves credit for weaving horror with social commentary. While the first film tackled female foeticide and patriarchal traditions, Chhorii 2 goes further, exploring motherhood, cultism, and blind faith. The screenplay sometimes falters in pacing, especially in the middle portions, but the build-up towards the climax remains engaging.

Furia crafts scenes that are not just scary, but unsettling—forcing the audience to question societal evils as much as they fear the supernatural ones.

Cinematography, Sound & Atmosphere

Anshul Chobey’s cinematography once again creates a moody, claustrophobic ambiance, where shadows almost feel like characters in themselves. The use of muted palettes, candle-lit interiors, and dilapidated landscapes heighten the tension. The background score, by Raju Singh, complements the narrative without overdoing the jump scares.

The sound design—especially during the cult rituals and whispering sequences—is spine-chilling and immersive, elevating the film’s horror quotient.

Flaws & Final Act

Where Chhorii 2 stumbles slightly is in its attempt to explain too much. Certain scenes lose their mystery due to over-exposition. The climax, while emotionally impactful, feels a tad rushed and could have been more tightly edited for a stronger payoff.

That said, the message of resilience, motherhood, and generational trauma lands well. It’s a rare horror film that leaves you thinking long after the credits roll.

Verdict

Chhorii 2 is not just a horror sequel—it’s a continuation of a mother’s fight against ancient evil and societal demons. While not flawless, it’s a commendable follow-up that dares to deepen its narrative rather than just rehash scares. With compelling performances, haunting visuals, and a timely message, this one’s worth a watch—especially for fans of psychological horror with substance.

Rating: 3.5/5
Watch it for: Nushrratt’s emotionally raw performance, Soha’s creepy turn, and the atmospheric storytelling.
