Black-ish America’s famous sitcom TV series is ending with its upcoming season finale. The series had a full seven season-long run and is finally wrapping everything up with its season 8. Kenya Barris, the creator of this series, announced the season finale through his Instagram account. Here we will give you all the details about Black-ish’ final season.
Black-ish first premiered on ABC TV channel back in 2014. The series had an amazing fanbase and gained popularity in a blink of an eye. The series got a 7.1 rating out of 10 on IMDb. Not only that, but the series also bagged the prestigious Peabody Award and Emmy. It got so popular that the creators launched a franchise of spin-off shows, including Grown-ish with its 4th season and Mixed-ish based on Bow Johnson’s childhood. Let’s take a look at season 8’s cast.
Blackish had an amazing and talented cast lineup. And we couldn’t get enough of them. The final season will return with its original cast as expected, starring Anthony Anderson as Andre “Dre” Johnson; Tracee Ellis Ross as Rainbow “Bow” Johnson; Marcus Scribner as Andre “Junior” Johnson Jr.; Miles Brown as Jack Johnson; Marsai Martin as Diane Johnson; Jenifer Lewis as Ruby Johnson; Laurence Fishburne as Pops; and Katlyn Nichol as Olivia Lockhart. We will also see some of our favorite regular characters, including Jeff Meachum as Josh Oppenhol, Peter MacKenzie as Leslie Stevens, and Deon Cole as Charlie Telphy.
The sitcom series will feature the former First Lady Michelle Obama as a guest appearance in its season finale. We expect to see Yara Shahidi as Zoey Johnson in the first episode, who is currently starring in the franchise Grown-ish. The season finale of blackish will wrap up everything smoothly.
Blackish Season 8 will come out this Tuesday. The series creators have officially announced that the season finale will premiere on January 4, 2022, at 9:30 pm. It was earlier decided that the series would hit in the fall, but instead, the show is scheduled to arrive in midseason.
This may be due to a huge drop-off in viewers in the previous season. Black-ish lost 33% of its target audience, which is why the show will wrap up in this season for its loyal viewers. Executive producer Anthony Anderson said in an interview that the series is coming to an end, not by choice but because it’s not getting profit anymore. But wait, there’s still a chance that Black-ish may return with season 9 if season 8 can perform well.
This loving sitcom was indirectly based on Kenya Barris’ own family. The series is based on the day-to-day lives of the Johnsons, an upper-middle-class African-American family.
Dre, a patriarch and an African American, doesn’t know how to interact with black people. Meanwhile, his wife Bow is a biracial woman and a successful anesthesiologist who can easily juggle between different cultures. They have five children, and together they are dealing with many personal and political issues.
The series will premiere on the TV channel ABC. You can also stream the show on Hulu Plus, Amazon Prime, and ABC.com.
